About the artist…
Tom Dean is a completely self taught artist living and working in Great Falls, Montana. His custom, one-of-a-kind, one-of-one woodcarvings have sold to private owners, corporations and collectors across the United States. In 2009, Cowboys & Indians magazine named him one of the country’s best wood woodworkers.
Dean has taken his work in an exciting new direction and is sharing his talent with the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center Foundation. He has carved a full sized Bison Skull and horns out of Bubinga wood from Ghana Africa and Wenge wood from the Congo of West Africa respectively. The title of his piece is “Big Medicine”, which was displayed at the 2010 CM Russell Art Auction. “This carving turned out to be so stunningly beautiful, that I wanted to see it bronzed.” he said.
Dean has carved the iconic symbol of the American West and the most respected animal to the Native American as well as the Corp of Discovery, and is now casting it in bronze. The result is 25 signed and numbered limited edition bronzes of “Big Medicine”. Dean is donating a percentage of each sale to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center as well as the CM Russell Museum, McLaughlin Research Institute for Biomedical Research, both of Great Falls, and to the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Please contact Tom Dean at milocreek@bresnan.net or call 406-868-8889 to purchase “Big Medicine” and help support these organizations.
